FAQ
Does Samaritans Without Borders issue a tax-fee receipt?
No, We have applied to the Canadian Revenue Agency and we have been received a reply yet. In the mean time we will issue you a receipt but this will not be a tax-fee receipt.
How does SWB select students?
Regarding the selection of deserving students SWB has setup general guidelines which are to be followed.
(a) awarded on completion of grades 1 through university
(b) recipient has not received any other scholarships
(c) recipient is economically disadvantaged
(d) class teacher will certify on these three
(e) students must apply for the scholarship
(f) the scholarship will be awarded based on need and merit
To determine the above criteria SWB has volunteers on the ground who work in partnership with the Non Governmental organization" Union of Good Samaritans for Development", a NGO operating in the Congo-DRC and the Evangelical Free Chruch of Africa
How does SWB ensure the funds are used to their intended purpose?
SWB volunteers will use the stipend towards school fees, school supplies, uniforms and books instead of distributing cash. SWB will make these awards at an annual function in the school and photograph the event. Further, the volunteers SWB will get in contact with the school and the students based on the volunteer turnout.
What portion of the actual donation will reach the needy?
We plan that this number will be approximately 90%. The remainder of donations will be used to establish an operational office.
Can I make a donation to a specific student, a specific school or project in Goma?
Yes, you can. SWB will make all effort to contact the student immediately; to administer the funds to deserving students in the specific school; to reserve the funds for the specific project like Goma vocational training centre. To implement this seamlessly, we need to have proper contact phone numbers and SWB will need to research the background of the school. Therefore, we do not guarantee the funds will be administered immediately.
What is the stipend amount?
This is yet to be decided. We hope to provide CAN$ 100 - 1000 based on the grade the student is in and also based on availability of funds. Those in rural area pay a little school fees so $ 100 would suffice to catter for their basic needs. Those at University in the town on the other hand need more ressources to survive.
